This is a first edition of David Gemell's tenth book, and that which the author himself presented to his father, inscribing it on the title page, 'For Dad, with love, David'. The authenticity of this item is not in question: it was acquired, some years ago, from a member of the Gemmell's household who had inherited some of the family's books. Interestingly n inscription on an earlier work from the same source (now sold) read ' There you go, Dad, Another book you won't read! love Dave.' The book measures 9.5 x 6.5 inches and is a 416-page hardcover bound in publisher's caramel-coloured cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. The dustwrapper is illustrated by Geoff Taylor. The dustwrapper is complete and not price-clipped; it is very slightly worn at the edges. The book itself is in very good indeed condition: the page edges are slightly browned with age and the rear endpapers have two very small (under one-inch) splash marks, but otherwise there are no defects.
